painting on a dry surface

Painting on dry plaster. As the pigments are not bound by the lime from the plaster, they must be mixed with other binders of organic or inorganic origin. The use of binders makes the colours thicker and much more opaque than when painting on wet plaster or using the lime technique. The range of suitable pigments is also greatly expanded. The painting technique is named after the binder used, e.g. the egg, casein, or oil technique.
