Painting on fresh, still damp limewash, applied in one or more layers on dry plaster, either old or new. The pigments are diluted with lime milk, giving the colours more opacity and a whitish hue. The lime from the limewash and especially lime milk acts as a binder. The selection of pigments is similar to that of a true fresco, yet the painting is less durable.
