An organic or inorganic substance that surrounds and binds together the aggregate or pigment particles, making the mass flexible and thus enabling it to be applied to the support. The binders for plaster are lime, clay, or gypsum. The most common pigment binders include lime, lime milk, lime water, egg, animal glue, casein, gum arabic, oils, resins, waxes, and emulsions.
